A solar borehole constructed by Hon. Fabian Ogbeche, Chairman of Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, has collapsed before its commissioning.
CONVERSEER gathered that the borehole was supposed to be commissioned by the Deputy Governor of the State, Prof. Ivara Esu on Saturday, April 22, 2023.
However, the solar borehole collapsed before the Deputy Governor could reach Yala for commissioning.
A source, who is a native of Yala, Mr Daniel Riwo said though no human casualty was recorded but it is appalling that a project worth millions of naira could not be awarded to competent hands.
Riwo lauded the Chairman for the idea and political will but decry the poor hands used to do the job.
“We can’t totally blame the Council Leadership, at least they decided to execute this water project but we will question why they will hand over millions of our money to a contractor to carry out a poor job without supervising/overseeing the project to ensure that a quality job was done.
“Imagine the tragedy if people were using the water project when it collapsed?” he lamented.
When contacted on the phone on Wednesday (April 26), Hon. Ogbeche did not take nor return his calls at the time of filing this report.
CONVERSEER earlier reported that Prof. Esu, Deputy Governor commenced project commissioning across the 18 Local Government Areas of the State this April.
