ABUJA (CONVERSEER) – The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has turned off comments on the post it made on X regarding the non-issuance of a certificate to Ushie Rita Uguamaye.
The scheme made a clarification on the non-issuance of a certificate to Ushie in a post on Sunday, contrary to the recent reports regarding the matter.
In a statement titled “CLARIFICATION ON NON-ISSUANCE OF CERTIFICATE OF NATIONAL SERVICE TO CORPS USHIE RITA UGUAMAYE, STATE CODE NUMBER LA/24B/8325, BY THE NYSC”, the NYSC said the Corps member, like 130 others, was suspended, not because of her statement against the President Bola Tinubu-led government but because she missed her April clearance, which was subject to debate.
“The NYSC Management wishes to a clarify misleading information circulating on social media regarding Corps Member Ushie Rita Uguamaye, State Code number LA/24B/8325.
“Contrary to false claims that she was denied a Certificate of National Service (CNS) due to critical remarks about the government, this assertion is entirely unfounded and false in its entirety.
“Rita is among the 131 Corps Members whose Certificates of National Service (CNS), were withheld for valid disciplinary reasons. Specifically, Rita’s service year has been extended by two months for failing to attend the April 2025 biometrics clearance, a decision that aligns with the NYSC Bye-Laws.
“It is important to note that this extension is a standard procedure and not unique to her case, and the principle of equal treatment was only applied in this case.
“The NYSC Management thus urges the public to approach this matter with understanding, as extending service for non-compliance is a longstanding tradition within the NYSC and should not be politicised.
“The NYSC Scheme remains committed to discharging its mandate, in line with the dictates of the constitution.
“Nigeria is Ours; Nigeria We Serve. Management,” the statement by the NYSC read.

The statement, however, did not go well with many Nigerians, some of whom are calling on other Corps members to protest.

The rage in the comments led to the scheme disabling comments on the post.

Accept it or not it’s a set up. We’ve seen people who were not even physically present collect discharge certificate. We are Nigerians enough to know you’ll do anything in your power to say she failed to do something so you can use it for the greater cause.

@AkinseteKayode wrote: “You should bow your heads in shame. You picked on the girl because she spoke truth to power. We are Nigerian enough to know the evil government agencies like yours can do to make sure you silent critics. Suddenly, she has an elongated service because she didn’t do clearance.”
@Blezybest wrote: “She said the LGI kept on telling her to go to the back of the queue during April biometrics and when she was the last one standing, the LGI refused to clear her. Who is lying then?”
@phan2onn wrote: “You guys should really be ashamed of yourselves. The youths are not given much of any choices or chances in this country, yet they always try to find a way to fight for this country which at the end of de day it benefits everyone yet you’re part of the reason stopping the fight.”
@Isrealsam wrote: “So because she missed 1 month clearance that’s why she had an extension. Now that she have served the extension why hold back her certificate.”
Converseer learned that Ushie had reportedly said she was denied April clearance.
