IKEJA – The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has embarked on its 2025 Board and Management Strategic Retreat at the Marriott Hotel in Ikeja, drawing key decision-makers to chart a new course for development in the Niger Delta.

Under the theme “Repositioning NDDC for Efficient Service Delivery,” the retreat seeks to evaluate past initiatives, identify persistent challenges, and implement governance reforms designed to bolster transparency and operational effectiveness within the commission.

Among the prominent voices at the retreat is Rt. Hon. Orok Otu Duke, Cross River State’s representative on the NDDC Board. Duke has been a vocal advocate for policies that prioritise sustainable infrastructure, fair resource allocation, and impactful grassroots projects in his home state.

In his remarks at the event, Duke stressed the importance of accountability and diligent project execution. “It is no longer sufficient to award contracts and inaugurate projects. We must ensure that every initiative is well-executed, properly maintained, and fulfills its intended purpose. The Niger Delta has waited too long for sustainable progress, and it is our responsibility to deliver,” he said.

Duke also called for an increased focus on directing projects and programmes to Cross River State. He highlighted the significance of continuing and enhancing the initiatives launched by Governor Bassey Otu, emphasising that, as an All Progressives Congress (APC) state, Cross River should receive augmented support to further its development agenda.

As discussions continue throughout the retreat, the commitment to a reformed and more accountable NDDC remains clear. The strategic meeting is expected to set the stage for a more equitable distribution of resources, improved infrastructure, and the creation of sustainable economic opportunities in the Niger Delta region.
