An official of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED), formally known as NEPA has been electrocuted in Calabar, Cross River State capital.
CONVERSEER gathered that the incident occurred on Thursday, October 27, 2022, evening at the entrance of the Margaret Ekpo International Airport, opposite Airport Police Station, Calabar.
According to reports from CrossRiverWatch, the yet-to-identified victim was later attended to by officials of PHED and the Nigerian Air Force.
“In a 15 seconds video obtained by CrossRiverWatch, the official in his gear is seen dangling from the high-tension cable just a few meters from 305 Special Mobility Group of the Nigerian Airforce, Calabar’s checkpoint, and the PHED’s patrol vehicle number 019 is sighted parked under the high-tension as other officials try to bring him down”, the report read in part.
However, “the victim did not die, he was rushed to the hospital and he is still alive”, a source said.
CONVERSEER further gathered that the incident has rendered the Airport and Atimbo community in total darkness.
Reports also have it that this is the second time in less than two months that a staff of the PHED has been electrocuted by a high-tension wire.
The first was on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at Army Junction, close to Eburutu Military Cantonment
It is yet to be ascertained the major causes of the incidents.
