Enugu, Nigeria – The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has categorically dismissed claims that the Enugu State Government’s official account was hacked, leading to the theft of N1.09 billion.
In a statement released on 9 January 2025, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, clarified that the allegations circulating online are entirely unfounded.
According to the statement, investigations conducted by the NPF’s National Cyber Crime Centre (NCCC) revealed that the case in question was one of procurement fraud rather than a cyber breach. A suspect connected to the fraud has been apprehended, and the stolen funds have been successfully recovered.
The police further emphasised that the Enugu State Government, along with other ministries, departments, and agencies, has implemented robust security protocols in collaboration with the NCCC to protect its financial systems from cyber threats.
The NPF urged the public to avoid spreading misinformation and to verify the authenticity of news reports before sharing them.
The Force reiterated its commitment to maintaining transparency and ensuring the security of public funds in partnership with government agencies.
