Police Officers Reject $17,000 Bribe From Yahoo Boys During Arrest

Obio/Akpo, Rivers – Police operatives attached to the Zone 16 Command in Rivers State have arrested three individuals for alleged involvement in illicit drugs and fraudulent activities (Yahoo-Yahoo).

Converseer learned that the arrests were made by the Zonal Financial and Cyber Crime Unit following credible intelligence.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s spokesman, Gunn Emonena, the suspects were apprehended in the Rumukparali Community of Obio/Akpo Local Government Area.

The suspects – Billion Ndubuisi, Charles Amachree, and Martins Chinemike – reportedly confessed to impersonating Ryam Bill, a United States-based lawyer, and defrauding two individuals, St. Andrea and Charles Zielinsky, of $71,500.

During a search of the suspects’ residence, operatives recovered wraps of illicit drugs suspected to be Indian hemp, two vehicles, two laptops, and 10 mobile phones.

Emonena noted that the suspects attempted to compromise the investigation by offering a $17,000 bribe to the officers.

“The suspects, through their agent, offered the sum of a $17,000 bribe, which was rejected by our well-trained and reformed officers,” the statement read. “The money is registered and will be tendered as evidence in court.”

The command reiterated its commitment to combating cybercrime and drug-related offences in the region.

“Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are expected to be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the inquiry.”
