Nigerians, again have been thrown into darkness following the collapse of the national grid on Sunday.
CONVERSEER reports that this is the first time the power grid, managed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, is collapsing in 2024.
The grid which collapsed at about 11:21am, dropped from 2,407MW to 31MW by 12pm and and to zero by 1pm.
Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc, AEDC, one of the DisCos (Distributing Companies), in a statement on Sunday, notified its customers of the collapse.
According to the statement, the AEDC said the power blackout is nationwide, pleading with customers to be patient.

“The Management of Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) wishes to inform its valued customers that the power outage being experienced is as a result of a system failure from the national grid at 11:21 hours today, 4th February 2024 which has led to a nationwide power outage.
“Be rest assured that we are working with the relevant stakeholders to restore power as soon as the grid is stabilised.
“We appeal for your patience,” the statement by AEDC read.
CONVERSEER reports that this is the 46th time the national grid has collapsed in seven years – 2017-2024.
