ABUJA (CONVERSEER) – The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has strongly condemned the recent wave of brutal attacks across parts of Benue, Nasarawa, and Katsina States, which have claimed the lives of over 200 citizens, describing the killings as “barbaric” and a stark reflection of the deepening insecurity in Nigeria.
In a statement released on Sunday, 16th June 2025, and signed by its National Chairman, Falalu Bello, the PRP lamented the massacre of innocent residents in Yelewata and Daudu communities, as well as motorists along the Lafiya-Makurdi corridor, accusing the Federal Government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of indifference and neglect.
“It is profoundly disheartening that while our people are being slaughtered, villages razed, and livelihoods destroyed, the Federal Government remains indifferent or unable to provide the security assurances promised to Nigerians,” the party stated.
The PRP criticised the government for what it described as political distractions, accusing the administration of focusing on meetings and endorsements for the 2027 elections while Nigerians live under the constant threat of violence.
The party further cited ongoing attacks in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, where bandits have reportedly displaced entire communities and rendered farming impossible. Notably, the PRP recalled the 12 June attack in Yargoje Ward, where at least 30 farmers were killed on Democracy Day, with many others still missing.
“These unreported or under-reported cases highlight the scale of our insecurity crisis—an epidemic of violence that continues to threaten the very fabric of our nation,” the statement read.
The PRP blamed the APC-led government for lacking the political will, strategic coordination, and commitment necessary to address the rising insecurity, calling for an end to what it termed “political theatre.”
“The people deserve a government that works for their safety, not one preoccupied with 2027 political manipulations,” Falalu Bello said.
The party demanded the immediate implementation of effective security measures, stronger protection of farming communities, and urgent action to safeguard lives and property across the country.
“The time to act is now. The lives of our people depend on it,” the statement concluded.
The PRP joins other political, civil society, and community voices urging the Federal Government to rise to the occasion and end the cycle of violence threatening national stability.
