A 29-year-old woman, Esther Ukeje, was on Thursday charged before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing N630,950.00 from the proceeds of sales she made for her employer.
The defendant, who resides at 5, Alafia St., Iyana Ipaja, Lagos, is being tried for stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Innocent Odugbo, told the court that Ukeje allegedly stole the money from Honey Comb Confectioneries Ltd on Akowonjo Road, Dopemu, Agege in Lagos on Jan. 21.

Odugbo said that her employer became curious when discrepancies were found in her sales’ reports.

“And when digging dip into it, the company discovered that she failed to remit some cash she collected from customers into the company’s account,” the prosecutor said.

According to him, the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs M. F. Onamusi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Onamusi adjourned the case until Feb. 15 for mention. (NAN)
