Calabar, Nigeria – Female students of Bluebells High School, located along IBB Way in Calabar, Cross River State, have taken a bold step by reporting their security guards to the Nigeria Police for allegedly threatening them with machetes if they don’t give in for s*x.
The security guards, identified as Daniel Asuquo and Saviour Ekong, were arrested on Thursday, 13th March 2025, by the Airport Divisional Police Station, for alleged s*xual harassment.
According to Agba Jalingo, the two security guards threatened to kill the underage girls with a machete if they didn’t give them s*x.
Converseer gathered that the allegedly harassed students are between the ages of 13 and 14, and are in SS1 and SS2 respectively.
Seven of the underage students who gave accounts of their encounter with the two security guards at the Police Station alleged that their lives and that of their family members were threatened by the suspects.
One of the allegedly harassed students (name withheld), said one of the suspects told her he was going to be the one to deflower her while threatening her life and that of her father.
“He said that if I’ve ever been knacked before, and when I told him, I don’t understand what he meant, he said that I’m too beautiful, and he’s going to be the first person to knack me and that if I report to the school authority, they won’t do anything because he is the security man, and he’s there to secure me. He said if I tell my dad, my dad won’t do anything, and also he’s going to come after me and my dad,” the allegedly harassed student said.
Another allegedly harassed student (name withheld) said: “He told me that he likes me and he wants to marry me, and he threatened me with a machete. He said that if I report to anybody that he’s going to track me, and do something bad to me.”
The other allegedly harassed an underage student (name withheld) who gave an account of what happened, said: “He said that I should go to the street and try a handshake I give, that they are going to kill me, and that he’s not afraid of any school authority.”
Another said, “He said that if I don’t bring the Valentine’s Day gift for him, he’s going to hit me and threaten me.”
Another bold allegedly harassed student (name withheld) who stepped forward to give an account of what happened, said: “He said that he likes me, and he likes everything about me, and he also threatened that he is going to kill me if I say anything to anyone.”
One of the seventh students, who also spoke on the matter, said: “Because he tried doing everything that he did to them, and I did not answer him. He tried to, he threatened me with a machete, he called me, he told me that I should not try him and that I don’t know who he is, that I should go and ask who he is.”
Another student (name withheld), who shared her alleged harassment story, said, “He asked me to be his flower, and I refused, so he told me that I should not report him to any school authority, that he’s not scared of our school authorities. Whatever he wants to do, he’s going to do it.”
The students collectively sought justice, calling on the authorities to do the needful.
Converseer could not hear the side of the suspects’ stories as they were under police detention at the time of filing this report.
Confirming the arrest of the suspects, SP Irene Ugbo Obase, Police Public Relations Officer in Cross River State, told Converseer on the phone on Friday that the suspects have been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), for further investigation.
She said, “We are investigating the matter. They [students] reported s*xual harassment and all of that. They [security guards] are in our custody, and investigation is ongoing. So, not until that, we wouldn’t know whether it’s true or not but they are with us.
“This morning, they have been transferred to the state’s CID for discreet investigation.”
