Sen. Williams Provides Water, Lights Up 27 Communities in Central Cross River

Ikom, Cross River – The Senator Representing Cross River Central Senatorial District, Sen. Eteng Jonah Williams, has facilitated solar-powered boreholes as well as street lights in 27 communities of the district.

Converseer reports that the solar-powered boreholes were constructed to provide water in nine communities while the solar-powered street lights are to light up 16 communities – making it 27 in total.

A breakdown of the solar-powered boreholes showed that the projects are located in various communities of the 6 local government areas that make up the Senatorial District.

The benefiting communities where the solar-powered boreholes are located include Bendeghe-Ekiem, Ediba, Olulumo, Ababene, Ijom, Assiga, Aduma, Mkpani, Afaben, Mkpani and Boje.

Meanwhile, the solar-powered street lights were installed in the following communities: Ekori, Ugep, Mkpani, Inyima, Assiga, Nko, Obubra Urban, Oderegha/Ovukwa, Ofumbungha/Yala, Isobo Otaka, Isobo Biko-Biko, Boki, Wula Ekumpuo, Okwabang, Agba Osokom and Katchuan Irruan, Nsofang, Ajassor and Adadama.

Speaking with journalists in Calabar at the weekend, Sen. Williams said the solar-powered boreholes will ensure sustainable water supply, particularly in communities that suffer from water scarcity.

According to him, “The solar-powered street lights is in line with the ‘Project Light Up Central’ Initiative, aimed at boosting social activities and night lifestyle at the benefiting communities,” adding, “This is in line with his electioneering promise of taking development to the grassroots and improve standard of living.

“We are further collaborating with relevant federal agencies to bring in more developmental projects to our people. We are committed to restoring hope to our people at the grassroots.

“Water and light are very crucial to human existence, and that is why we are giving attention to the projects. This is just the tip of the iceberg.”
