Katsina, Nigeria – Alhaji Surajo Ahmed, Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Katsina State, was killed on Sunday night by suspected bandits who stormed his residence in Mai Rana community, Kusada Local Government Area, Katsina State.
The attackers, who struck around 10 pm, also abducted Ahmed’s two wives and daughter. Confirming the incident, MACBAN National President, Alhaji Baba Usman Ngelzarma, revealed that the association has reached out to the police and other security agencies to investigate the attack and ensure the safe return of the kidnapped victims.
“The incident happened yesterday around 10 pm. We have contacted police and other security bodies for intervention,” Ngelzarma stated.
Efforts to obtain a response from the Katsina State Police Command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, were unsuccessful as calls and messages went unanswered.
This tragic development comes amid heightened concerns over banditry and violence in northern Nigeria. In a related context, Fulani groups in Plateau State recently decried the loss of 350 lives and 834 cows, alongside the destruction of over 115 villages between October 2023 and January 2024.
The group lamented the displacement of Fulani communities in eight districts and the destruction of properties worth billions of naira, further illustrating the ongoing security challenges in the region.
