Following a Thursday sword attack on New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s office, a woman has been detained.
A 57-year-old man, according to the police, was detained in relation to the incident at Ardern’s Auckland office.
“The woman is currently assisting police with our inquiries into the matter and we are not currently seeking (sic) anyone else,” a police spokesperson said.
The office’s glass was broken, and according to the local media, a smoke bomb was also hurled inside the structure.
According to authorities, there were no reported injuries, and the office was empty when the attack occurred.
In addition to celebrating the first complete season of Antarctic research and environmental protection following two years of disruption by the Coronavirus, Ardern is in Antarctica to commemorate 65 years of Scott Base, New Zealand’s Antarctic residence.
