ABUJA (CONVERSEER) – President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s support for Mali’s transition to democratic governance and called for closer political and economic cooperation among West African nations, describing regional unity as the continent’s strongest asset.
The President made these remarks on Thursday in Abuja while receiving the Letters of Credence from Mali’s new Ambassador to Nigeria, Cheick Oumar Coulibaly.
The Nigerian Head of State said it is imperative to reinforce bilateral ties, and hoped for Mali’s successful navigation in its democratic journey.

He underscored the importance of solidarity within the region, especially in light of recent political shifts and Mali’s involvement in the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). Despite differing alliances, he emphasised that unity remains essential.
Ambassador Coulibaly conveyed a message of goodwill from Mali’s Head of State, General Assimi Goïta, expressing gratitude for Nigeria’s consistent leadership and its contributions to peace and stability in the region.
