Expressing their ordeal, some of the residents at Wanikade, revealed that since May this year, there had been no form of electricity around the area.

One of the residents, who pleaded anonymity, spoke bitterly on the way the government has not been unfair to the people.

Narrating further that “Ukelle North is always being remembered only during elections, after that, we are abandoned and left to cater for ourselves.”

Another resident, Mr Onyema, a Chemist owner at Barracks, Wanikade, poured out his feelings as regards how Ukelle people are being neglected. He was concerned about the ineptitude of the government regarding the sufferings of the people in Ukelle North.

Onyema highlighted the major problems of Ukelle North to include lack of electricity, abandoned road projects, lack of healthcare facilities, among others.

In the same vein, Mr Peter Obok, a Secretary to the WhatsApp Platform “Ukelle Political,” reacted to some of the posts made by members of the platform regarding the issue of electricity.

He mentioned that he has made contact with the Yahe NEPA sub-station, and they revealed to him that there are lots of hindrances as regards the absence of electricity in the area. He further said that not less than N326,500.00 will be needed to fix the electricity problem in the area.

The Ukelle community is very productive, and if the government can restore light in the area, it will help boost economic activities and reduce youthful unrest.
