A woman that was hit on the head by a rock in a cave in Slovenia was rescued after spending 30 hours underground.
The 33-year-old woman was lying seriously injured in an unexplored cave system near the municipality of Cerknica, the news agency STA reported on Monday, citing the Slovenian rescue agency.
According to the report, a medical rescue team was able to reach the unconscious woman relatively quickly and provide first aid.
However, extracting her from the cave proved to be much more difficult.
She was finally lifted out on a stretcher; doctors at the university hospital in the capital Ljubljana described the woman’s condition as life-threatening.
There are numerous caves in Slovenia’s limestone landscapes that can be visited by tourists.
The best-known are the stalactite caves of Postojna, through which a narrow-gauge railway runs.
In nearby Cerknica, the Cross Cave, with its underground lakes, is considered one of the most beautiful water caves in the world. (dpa/NAN)
