Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) female football team known as NLC Angels, defeated their male team counterpart by 2-1 in a novelty match commemorating the Workers Day in the country.

In a post match interview, Nwigbo who is also the NLC chairman in Enugu, said the essence of the novelty match was to commemorate the 2023 workers day.
“During workers day, we usually have some other activities and in the morning. we had press briefing, went to the office and commemorated the workers day.
“From the office, we left to motherless home with some items before the novelty match to make ourselves happy for the day.
“I am not sure that any worker in Nigeria has felt good since the harsh economy, the terrible wages we have been receiving and we do not want it to weigh us down.
“We decided to come together with one another through this football match and I am happy it ended well, in spite of the outcome,” he said.
Rose Ugwu, the chairperson of the NLC sports committee and the captain of the female team, expressed delight over the win, saying that the victory was not an easy one.
“This feat showed that women are not only good in the kitchen and the other room as people think, but good in other aspects of life and can do whatever man can do.
“We are planning to start football training once in a month, joined with road walk,to help us to be fit always and health wise,” Ugwu said.(NAN)
