The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in Cross River on Sunday solicited for votes for the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Sen. Bassey Otu, ahead of the March 11 polls.
Chairman of NYCN in Cross River, Mr Daniel Obo, canvassed for the votes during an interaction with youth leaders from Cross River North and Central senatorial districts at Ikom Local Government Area of the state.
Obo said Sen. Otu reflected the aspiration and wishes of youths in the state, adding that the former lawmaker consulted and shared his blueprint with the youths before joining the race.
According to him, the deputy governorship candidate of APC, Hon. Peter Odey, who is the current Majority Leader of the Cross River House of Assembly, is a youth, hence NYCN’s reason for endorsing candidates of the APC.
“We have come to a critical time where we are about to elect our new leaders; in doing so, we have carefully looked at the party that gave its tickets to the youths in the state and it’s only the APC.
“As we speak, 95 per cent of candidates in the APC in Cross River are youths and we are happy about that because we have always been clamouring for youth inclusion in governance.
“I want to charge you all to go back to your different local government areas and mobilise the youths in all polling units to vote for Sen. Otu as governor and for all the APC candidates in the state.
“Sen. Otu has the capacity, experience and needed credentials to govern Cross River. As a lawmaker, the people of Southern senatorial district felt his purposeful representation, robust community development and empowerment,’’ he said.
He added that Cross River had been practicing rotational governorship system since 1999, adding that it was time for power to return to the south in 2023.

Also speaking, Mr Peter Olofu, Youth Coordinator, Bekwarra Local Government Area, said the NYCN had embarked on aggressive youth campaign on the collection of Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the polls.
He said that the APC government led by Gov. Ben Ayade gave political appointments to thousands of youths in the state, hence NYCN’s support for the party.
In his remarks, Mr Sagas Mbeh, who spoke on behalf of the youths in Ikom Local Government Area, assured that youths in the area would vote massively for the governorship candidate of APC and other APC candidates in the state. (NAN)
