117 regional hotel efcc suspects EFCC parades 117 arrested at Regional Hotel despite ordering arrest of Officers involved in unprofessional conduct

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had paraded 117 persons arrested on Thursday morning at the Regional Hotel in Iyana-Ishasi, Lagos.

Converseer learned that operatives of the Lagos Zonal Command of the EFCC stormed the hotel in a sting operation, shooting sporadically as well as manhandled staff of the hotel. The incident was captured on tape.

In a statement on its social media pages, the Commission tagged the 117 persons, mostly youths, as suspected internet fraudsters (popularly referred to as Yahoo Boys).

The statement claimed they were arrested in a sting operation, “following verified intelligence about their alleged involvement in computer-related fraud.”

It added, “Items recovered from the suspects, at the point of arrest, include mobile phones, laptop computers and four cars.

“They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”

Meanwhile, the Commissioner had earlier on the same day issued a press release, saying its chairman, Ola Olukoyede, had ordered the arrest of the officers involved in the unprofessional conduct.

The statement which was signed by Dele Oyewale, Head of Media & Publicity of the EFCC, said the Olukoyede also ordered detailed investigations of the operation carried out at the hotel.

“The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr Ola Olukoyede has ordered the arrest of two officers of the Commission allegedly involved in the manhandling of a female staff of Regional Hotel, Ojo, Lagos.

“The officers were sighted in a viral video assaulting the staff of the hotel in an early morning sting operation in Lagos. The operation yielded a sizable number of suspects who are still being profiled.

“The EFCC’s boss has also ordered detailed investigations of the operation carried out at the hotel and assured that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against any of the officers found to be culpable.

“Olukoyede assures the general public that the EFCC would continue to ply its job professionally and with profound respect for the rule of law,” the statement by Oyewale read.
