UNICAL: Prof. Obi appoints 5 new acting HODs

Prof. Florence Obi, Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, addressing newly admitted students during the 46th matriculation at the Abraham Ordia Stadium on Friday, 26 January 2024.

Prof. Florence Obu, Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, has approved the appointments of 5 Acting Heads of Department (HODs) in the Faculty of Humanities & Social Science Education

The appointments are as follows:

1. Dr Benjamin Ambe, Acting HOD of Geography and Sustainable Development.

2. Dr Gladys Ukume, Acting HOD of History and Christian Religious Studies.

3. Dr Ofem Edim Otu, Acting HOD of Economics and Political Science.

4. Dr Rose Udonwa, Acting HOD of Home Economics

5. Dr Federick A. Opoh Acting HOD of Social Studies and Civic Education.

In a letter signed by the VC, Prof. Obi, their appointments are for two years with effect from 28th June 2024 to 27th June 2026.

“The newly appointed Acting Heads are expected to bring in their wealth of experience while discharging their official duties diligently by effectively administering their respective Departments to ensure optimal productivity,” the letter read in part.

The letter further stated that Management would not hesitate to sanction any Acting HOD who fails to turn in student results within the given timeline, or who acts in breach of University regulations.

This is even as relevant sections of the University have been informed to accord them the necessary courtesies associated with the office.
