To create jobs and employment opportunities and reform the civil service, the Cross River State government has announced the introduction of a new online recruitment portal.

The initiative, part of Governor Bassey Otu’s “People’s First” mandate, aims to modernise the state’s civil service, aligning it with global best practices.

The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Cross River State Civil Service Commission, Sir Maurice Effiwatt, on Friday in Calabar.

Effiwatt emphasised that the online recruitment and placement process will be entirely free of charge, cautioning job seekers to beware of fraudulent individuals posing as government officials who may attempt to extort money in exchange for supposed job placements.

Sir Maurice reassured the public that the necessary modalities are being finalised, and the online recruitment process is set to begin in a few days.

He highlighted the importance of this digital transformation in ensuring transparency and efficiency in the recruitment process.

On their part, Dr Henry Ayuk, Cross River State Commissioner for Health, accompanied by Mr Esu Coco-Bassey, the Special Assistant on Nursing, expressed their gratitude to Governor Otu for appointing Sir Maurice Effiwatt as the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission.

They praised Effiwatt’s extensive experience in the civil service, noting that his leadership will be instrumental in the ongoing reforms.

Dr Ayuk lauded the chairman’s efforts to digitise the recruitment process, describing it as a pivotal step in restoring the commission’s original mandate as a promoter and protector of the merit system in the civil service.

He added that this initiative would reinforce the importance of meritocracy in implementing the federal character policy.

Similarly, Dr Hippolatus Ogar Lukpata, the Commissioner for International Development and Donor, commended Sir Maurice’s appointment, expressing confidence in his capacity to steer the civil service in the right direction.

He noted that the chairman’s leadership would contribute significantly to the success of Governor Otu’s “People First Agenda.”
