President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate replacement of Hon. Asu Okang with Rt. Hon. Orok Duke as NDDC Commissioner representing Cross River State.
This was contained in a press release signed by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity on Friday, September 1, 2023.
Recalled that earlier this month, August 29, Tinubu appointed Okang, a former commissioner of Youths and Sports Development and Information and Orientation under former Governor Ben Ayade, as the NDCC representative in Cross River.
The appointment caused a stir among the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, leading to a protest in Calabar, the state capital.
The protest by the APC in Cross River was for Asu Okang, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to be replaced with an APC member.
Heeding to the call, the statement by Ngelale said: “The President has equally approved the immediate replacement of the NDDC’s Cross River State Representative nominee, Mr Asu Oku Okang, with a new Cross River State Representative, Rt. Hon. Orok Otu Duke.”
The president also replaced Ondo State’s representative.
“President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate replacement of the NDDC’s Ondo State Representative nominee, Mr Victor Akinjo, with a new Ondo State Representative nominee, Hon. Otito Atikase,” the statement by Ngelale said.
“Furthermore, the immediate past Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the NDDC, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, is reappointed to a second term and will remain in acting capacity, pending the Senate’s confirmation of his reappointment”, the statement added.
