Russia unveils Nelson Mandela’s monument in Moscow

South Africa’s late Nelson Mandela’s monument was on Tuesday unveiled in Moscow, Russia’s capital, as the country continues to win more affection from Africans.

Nelson Mandela (1918-2013) was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary leader, philanthropist and politician who served as SA’s president (1994 – 1999).

He is widely regarded as one of the most iconic and influential leaders of the 20th century.

He is often referred to as “Madiba,” a term of affection and respect in South Africa.

To the West (United States, United Kingdom and Europe), Mandela was a terrorist who was placed on a “wanted terrorist list”, but to Africans, South Africans and the East, he was a freedom fighter.
