Germany has agreed to open the doors to 250,000 skilled and semi-skilled Kenyan workers in a controlled and targeted labour migration deal.
Recently, President Ruto made a commitment to address the employment concerns of Kenya’s young people, who had been protesting against economic challenges. He assured them that his administration would create opportunities for international employment, urging the youths to obtain their passports in preparation for the forthcoming job opportunities abroad.
The labour deal was signed in Berlin by Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Kenya’s President William Ruto.

Doctors, nurses and teachers are among those expected to take part in the programme.
Additionally, IT specialists from Kenya will be allowed to enter and work in Germany, even if they do not have formal qualifications.
Kenya has a lot of well-trained software engineers; ChatGPT was developed and trained in Kenya.
Is this a good deal for Kenyans and the Kenyan economy? Time will tell.
