Gov Fubara defies Wike, Court, swears in 23 elected Rivers LG chairmen

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has defied Nyesom Wike and the Court as he swore in 23 elected local government chairmen in Rivers State.

CONVERSEER reports that the swearing-in took place on Sunday at the Executive Council Chamber of the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

According to SaharaReporters, the event took place just hours after the chairmen received their certificates of return from Adolphus Enebeli, Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

The swearing-in ceremony was the culmination of a local government election that was marked by heightened tension on Saturday, 5th October.

Despite the challenges, the Action Peoples Party (APP) emerged victorious, securing 22 out of 23 chairmanship positions.

Governor Fubara’s address to the newly elected chairmen emphasised the importance of servant leadership. He urged them to remain humble, stating that “The moment you see yourself as a god, the problem begins.”

The governor also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support, acknowledging that it was crucial to the successful conduct of the election.

The inauguration ceremony was observed by Senator Bala Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State, who also holds the position of Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum.
