Two Cross River State House of Assembly (CRSHA) members, Hon. Martins Achadu and Hon. Brian Odey, have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Hon. Achadu, who represents Yala I State Constituency, officially defected from PDP to the APC in the Ijiraga ward.

Shortly after, Hon. Odey of Yala II State Constituency joined the APC from LP in Yahe Ward.

Welcome Achadu, Odey and thousands of their supporters into APC, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, Speaker of the House of Assembly, described the move as a timely and strategic decision for the party and the People’s First Administration.

Ayambem emphasised the importance of having experienced leaders like Hon. Achadu onboard, stating, “This defection marks a turning point for our party, as we continue to build a stronger and more dynamic political force to meet the needs of Cross Riverians.”

On Odey, Speaker Ayambem expressed his delight in the lawmaker’s decision to change allegiance. “Hon. Brian’s arrival is not only a personal joy for me, but it is also a victory for the APC. His dedication and commitment to his constituents will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and success of our party,” the Speaker remarked.

Ayambem pointed out that these defections are a clear indication of the growing confidence in the APC’s leadership and vision for Cross River State.

He added that the APC is a “big and welcoming family,” and with the addition of Hon. Achadu and Hon. Odey, the party is now in a stronger position to deliver on its promises to the people.

The Speaker also took the opportunity to encourage other political leaders in the state to follow suit, noting that the APC offers a platform for inclusive governance and sustainable development. “We need more hands to work together in ensuring that Cross River State reaches its full potential,” Ayambem stated.
