By Frank Ulom

Comrade (Dr) Inyali Peter was inaugurated as the new National President of the University of Cross River State, UNICROSS Alumni Association on Tuesday 12 December 2023 at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar. CONVERSEER reports.

ACCEPTANCE SPEECH BY THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT OF UNICROSS ALUMNI ASSOCIATION, COMRADE INYALI PETER

Fellow Alumni,

The onerous task of getting a new leadership for our dear Alumni Association has come and gone. Today, the emergence of this new executive marks a new beginning for UNICROSS Alumni.

We are not shouting for victory because this is indeed a matter of “no victor, no vanquish.” It is a period to re-consolidate from our broken past, recalibrate, and chart a new course for UNICROSS Alumni with the view to adding value to our Alma Mater and its community.

I can not thank you enough for all your unflinching support throughout the electioneering period to my eventual emergence as the president, albeit unopposed. I thank you immensely and beseech you all to continue with me on this journey as we lead the charge for a greater UNICROSS Alumni.

The task ahead is not for the executives alone. It is and should be a shared responsibility. Together, we will make our Alma Mater an envy of others.

May I not bore you with a repeat of my blueprint and electoral promises; but be rest assured that under my leadership, every promise would be fulfilled, even as we seek to make inclusivity and purposefulness hallmarks of our leadership.

May I specially thank the Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency, Senator (Prince) Bassey Otu and his Deputy, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Elvert Ayambem, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Anthony Owan Enoh, the Honourable Commissioner for Youths, Barr. Ukam Ijom, the member representing Obudu/Obanliku/Bekwerra federal constituency, Hon. Peter Akpanke, the Senator representing Cross River South Senatorial district, Sen. Asuquo Ekpenyong Jr., the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr Justine Beshel, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Abubakar Ewa and all leaders of note for their unwavering support.

Equally, I thank our security agencies, particularly the Nigerian Army, the Department of Secret Services, and the Nigerian Police for their professionalism during the election.

I commend the efforts of our campaign team ably led by the Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Cross River State, Comrade Daniel Obo Jr. for a job well done. We have won the war, but we must stick together to win the battle.

Dear Alumni, it is not a day for long speeches. The journey for a greater UNICROSS has just begun. May I use this opportunity to call on all opposing forces to join hands with our leadership in taking UNICROSS Alumni to the eldorado of our dreams.

Solidarity.

Inyali Peter, PhD
National President
University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) Alumni Association
