OBUDU (CONVERSEER) – Three people have been reported dead in a renewed boundary dispute between Cross River and Benue states, on Saturday.
The affected communities are Abonkib community in Obudu urban, Cross River State and Mbezerem community in Vandeikya LGA of Benue State.
According to CrossRiverWatch, from the three lives that were lost, one is from Abonkib and the other two from Mbezerem who were killed in Obudu town.
“The fire exchange began immediately after the military personnel left the scene of the boundary around Girls Secondary School Obudu and Federal College of Education Obudu, where both communities began the clash,” the report quoted a source as saying.
The boundary is a few kilometres away from the College of Education.
According to the report, the dispute escalated on Friday with sporadic gunshots aimed at both communities.
One of the surviving victims was rescued from a mop, following the intervention of the Special Adviser on Peace and Security. It turned out that he hails from Obanliku LGA of Cross River.
Members of the communities are calling for intervention from the government and security forces.
