A 16-room apartment has been razed down by fire along Glado Street in Okuku, Yala Local Government Area of Cross River.

The incident which happened on Sunday, 21 January 2024, rendered 38 occupants homeless.

Though the cause of the fire could not be ascertained, the caretaker of the house, Pastor David Ogar said several personal properties and cash worth millions of naira were destroyed as no resident was able to pick anything from the building.

Upon hearing the news, Hon. Godwin Offiono, Member Representing Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency in the National Assembly intervened by relocating the displaced persons to a new 16-room apartment he rented for them.

CONVERSEER learned that Offiono delegated a team on 22 January 2024, led by his Constituency Officer, Dr Raphael Ogar Oko, including his Okuku Ward Coordinator, Mr Adoga Boniface, Okuku Ward PDP Chairman, Mr Idagu Oluohu and others, to visit and inform the affected families that a new 16-room building has been rented for them.

The team also distributed relief materials to the victims, including mattresses, blankets, sleeping mats, cooking pots, stoves, buckets, and mosquito nets.

On behalf of the 38 occupants, Pastor Ogar thanked the lawmaker for his prompt intervention, while praying for God’s continuous guidance.
