- …maintain unbeaten record in all competitions
Bayer 04 Leverkusen have won the German Bundesliga for the first time, quelling Bayern Munich’s 11th title.
The Xabi Alonso boys did that in style after thumping Werder Bremen at the BayArena on Sunday, 14th April 2024, courtesy of goals from Victor Boniface, Granit Xhaka and Florian Wirtz.
The Nigerian striker, Boniface, opened the scoring in the 25th minute after returning to the team following a long-term injury that kept him out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast where the Super Eagles lost to the host.

Then it was a goal galore in the second half as Boniface assisted Xhaka in the 60th minute to make it 2-0.
Wirtz completed the rout with a hat-trick – scoring in the 68th, 83rd, and 90th minutes.

The win means Bayern cannot catch up with Leverkusen if even they lose the remaining 5 matches.
Leverkusen have won the league title after 29 matches; winning 25, drawing only 4, and losing none.

They are into the DFB-Pokal final, where they are unbeaten and are currently unbeaten in the UEFA Europa League with just a quarterfinal match to reach the semifinal at the expense of West Ham, whom they thrashed 2-0 in the first leg. Boniface also scored in that match as well, after being introduced from the bench.
The DFB-Pokal final will be against FCT on 24th May 2024 while the second leg of the Europa League quarterfinals will be played on Thursday, 18th April 2024.
