CRSG kicks against institution’s traditional medicine breakthrough

The Cross River State Government (CRSG) has kicked against a claim by an Institution in the state, saying its researchers have discovered cures for various life-threatening ailments.

In a public notice signed by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Henry Ayuk, on Tuesday (21st May), the government warned the public against consuming medical products without the seal of the State Ministry of Health.

The notice said the claims by the Institute are uninvestigated and unpublished, so, should not be taken into consideration by the general public.

It added that the State will not allow individuals, groups or even training institutions attempt to use her citizens as subjects for research purposes.

“This is to, for the umpteenth time, inform the general public to ignore any information concerning medical practices, be it orthodox or traditional-medical that do not have the seal of the State Ministry of Health.

“Just recently, the public has been inundated with all forms of innuendoes on recent breakthroughs in traditional medicine by a particular tertiary institution in Cross River State for the treatment of sundry ailments. These claims are still largely uninvestigated and unpublished.

“While Government welcomes stakeholders’ involvement in delivering health services, the State will not allow individuals, groups or even training institutions attempt to use her citizens as subjects for research purposes or under any guise without due process and the necessary professional clearances as this portends grave danger for the health of our people.

“It is important to ensure that healthcare is compliant with existing federal and state policies and regulations. Government will not tolerate whatever measures from anyone or institution that do not conform to standard operating procedures.

“Medical breakthroughs are usually empirically tested, scientifically proven and evidence-based. Cross River cannot afford to dabble in medical heresy in this 21st century.

“The public is, therefore, advised to resist persons, groups or institutions in whatever guise and keep away from all medical practices without the seal of government.

“Be guided, please,” the statement by Dr Ayuk read in full.
