The people of Obubra I State Constituency have appealed to the All Progressive Congress (APC) hierarchy to ensure equity, fair play and natural justice in the choice of electing a new Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly.
This was disclosed by APC party stalwarts from the constituency on Friday in a statement, which stated that “Since the post of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly was zoned to the Central Senatorial District, and the former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, has suddenly become a victim of Order 24 of the House Rules and was removed through a vote of no confidence by 17 members out of 25, it is only natural that equity and fair play should prevail.”
The statement which was signed by the Chairman of Obubra Coalition for Justice, Hon. Paul Ejeoghor, further stated that “Since the two members representing Boki State Constituency I & II have registered their unwillingness for the position, it is only natural that the member representing Obubra I State Constituency, Hon. Ovat Agbor Dickson should be considered.”
Hon. Ejeoghor affirmed that their plea for the consideration of the member representing the area in the State House of Assembly is further anchored on the fact that of “all the local government areas within the Central Senatorial District, it is only those who have so far represented Obubra LGA that are yet to occupy the converted position since 1999.”
He listed the qualities that stand out Hon. Ovat Agbor Dickson as “possession of positive spirit of teamwork, ability to work efficiently under pressure, a rare humane attribute of understanding the importance of legislative work ethics and moreso imbued with the right attitude of adding value to the established chain of command structure as well as quality control and scientific research development approach towards achieving strategic planning goals.”

He also pointed out that having played a key role among the 17 lawmakers who ensured the removal of the former Speaker and the fact that other legislators from the district were not willing to occupy the position, “The party hierarchy should count on the ability and experience of Hon. Ovat for the plump job.”
They pledged their unalloyed loyalty and continued support for the administration of Governor Bassey Edet Otu in the task of building a strong economic foundation for the state, adding that the “Governor deserves a vibrant and robust legislative cooperation.”
