The outgoing Coordinator of the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Bebuabie Community in Obudu in Cross River State, Christiana Akeke has been intercepted by youths for allegedly carting away equipment from the centre.

CONVERSEER learned that the incident happened last week Saturday evening when Akeke arrived at the PHC with a government-crested truck.

In a viral video being shared on social media and made available to our newsroom by an anonymous source, the youths claimed Akeke had already carted away solar panels, batteries and other electrical appliances provided for the PHC by the government.

“Akeke arrived at the Bebuabie Primary Health Centre last Saturday evening in a marked PHC Toyota Hiace bus with a registered number, CR 876 A0 1, along with cohorts to cart away beds and other valuables, claiming she was taking them for repairs, without the consent of anyone in the community including the resident nurse.

“Information quickly spread and she was accosted by the community youths who accused her of coming to loot the equipment.

“They claimed she had taken away the solar panels, batteries and other electrical appliances provided for the PHC by the government, some months ago under the same guise and never returned them and vowed not to let her repeat same.

“The youths accused her of trying to cash out at the last minute by selling PHC equipment under her control as she approaches retirement from service.

“They accosted and disgraced her out of the PHC facility,” the source said.

CONVERSEER reports that health facilities in Cross River, especially PHCs don’t regain the same shape following the end of any administration. There are either made good or worse.

CONVERSEER is yet to get comments from Aleke as efforts to reach out to her proved abortive at the time of this report.
