Promoting Santorini as a Tourism Destination through State Support

Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni discussed the strategy and best measures for dealing with the emerging challenges for the tourism sector on the island of Santorini during a meeting with island groups and associations on Monday.

The focus was on ways to ensure stability and the competitiveness of the island’s tourism product and visitor safety.

The meeting was attended by the president of the Santorini Hoteliers Association, Antonis Pagonis, the president of the Atlantis Association of Rental Rooms, Lefteris Anapliotis, Secretary-General of Tourism Development Vasia Koutsoukou and the minister’s adviser Konstantinos Zikos.

They noted that the precautionary mobilization, interministerial coordination, the high level of cooperation between all parties involved and consistent communication are demonstrating the effectiveness of state mechanisms in handling the situation.

The ministry has open lines of communication with all tourism bodies on Santorini and is working closely with local authorities and local businesses for the successful management of the tourism season, focusing on safety, innovation and on improving the experience of visitors.

As Kefalogianni pointed out: “Santorini is an iconic Greek tourism destination and it is our priority to ensure its stability and competitiveness. The ministry remains on the front line, actively supporting Santorini through targeted actions. We are ensuring that Santorini remains a foremost and safe global destination.”
