Scientists are closely monitoring ongoing seismic activity near Santorini as a series of moderate earthquakes continue.
Since January 26, over 12,800 quakes have been detected between the islands of Santorini and Amorgos, with more than 140 exceeding magnitude 4.0. Greek and international research teams are deploying advanced monitoring tools, including satellite observations, gravity measurements, and underwater seismographs, to track ground shifts and assess potential risks.
The oceanographic vessel Aegean will soon conduct further investigations as part of the “Athena vs Enceladus” research project. While experts stress there is no immediate volcanic threat, the seismic swarm remains active. Authorities urge patience and scientific diligence as they analyze the evolving situation.
