Calabar, Nigeria – To improve transparency, accountability, and efficiency in managing public assets, Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has ordered the digitalisation of the state’s asset registry. This initiative will create a centralised system for tracking, auditing, and managing government-owned properties, ensuring better oversight and preventing misuse.
The directive follows the State Executive Council’s approval for a comprehensive audit and recovery of public assets, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to responsible governance and data-driven decision-making.
As part of this process, key government officials—including Special Adviser on Asset Management and Recovery, Barr. Gilbert Agbor; Economic Adviser, Prof. Peter Oti; Accountant General, Dr (Mrs) Glory Effiong; and State Auditor General, Mrs Anne Essessien—met in Calabar with Nugi Technologies Nigeria Limited, the firm handling the project.
The meeting allowed government stakeholders to share expert insights and outline the best ways to ensure the digital asset registry is secure, efficient, and suited to the needs of Cross River State.
Barr. Gilbert Agbor, Special Adviser on Asset Management and Recovery, stated that digitising the asset registry will help the government track its properties, improve efficiency, and recover unlawfully acquired assets.
“Governor Otu is committed to ensuring that all state assets are properly documented, well-managed, and protected. This digital registry will modernise our asset management system and strengthen efforts to prevent the illegal acquisition or misuse of public property,” Agbor said.
He also assured that the government will work closely with stakeholders to fully implement the project and ensure it serves its purpose.
Godswill Adie, Chief Technology Officer of Nugi Technologies Nigeria Limited, praised the state government for taking a proactive approach to adopting digital solutions for better governance.
“This system will not only help the government register and track its assets but will also introduce key features to improve efficiency and accountability,” Adie said.
He added that once completed, the digital asset registry will provide real-time access to data, making it easier for government officials to monitor and manage state-owned properties.
The digital asset registry is expected to make state-owned properties easier to track, maintain, and utilise efficiently. By adopting modern technology, Governor Otu’s administration is enhancing governance, improving accountability, and ensuring that public resources are properly managed for the benefit of all Cross River citizens.
