Actor John Dumelo Ventures into Agriculture, Says Film Industry Not Enough to Sustain Him

ACCRA – Renowned Ghanaian actor and entrepreneur, John Dumelo, has revealed how his passion for agriculture has transformed his life, enabling him to create a sustainable livelihood while addressing food security in his community and beyond.

In a statement, Dumelo explained that his career in the film industry, while rewarding, was insufficient to meet his aspirations. His deeper drive to eliminate hunger and contribute meaningfully to society inspired him to venture into agriculture. His farming activities now include poultry farming, yam cultivation, and the production of ginger, pepper, and cereals.

“The film industry was not enough to sustain me. Besides, I had a deep passion for agriculture, a desire to eliminate hunger in my community and beyond through my products.

“Agriculture is the key to creating a self-reliant future. That’s why I encourage our youth to explore the soil, invest in farming, and contribute to building our country,” Dumelo said.

He emphasised that farming is more than a profession, describing it as a solution to unemployment and financial dependency. According to him, agriculture offers an avenue for sustainable self-employment, reducing the economic strain on families while fostering community development.

“If I ever return to acting, it will be purely for passion because agriculture has given me more than I ever dreamed of. The soil has proven to be a bank that never fails, always rewarding the effort you put into it,” Dumelo added.

The actor-turned-agripreneur now advocates for young people to embrace farming as a means of transforming communities “one harvest at a time.” He believes agriculture holds the power to drive economic growth, ensure food security, and provide a pathway for the youth to create their futures.
