The suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has refuted claims that she apologised to the leadership of the Nigerian Senate over the actions that led to her suspension.
In a statement released on Monday, Akpoti-Uduaghan described the reports as “false and misleading.”
The lawmaker declared that she stands by her actions and has not issued any apology to the Senate or any individual in the Red Chamber.
The Senate on March 7 suspended Akpoti-Uduaghan for breach of the Red Chamber’s rules.
This followed her sexual assault allegation against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
She said: “The purported reports circulating that I have apologized to the Senate and retracted my position are completely untrue. I stand firmly by my words and actions, and I have not issued any apology to the Senate or anyone regarding this matter.”
The senator also expressed concern over what she described as deliberate attempts to distort facts and mislead the public.
According to her, the challenges she faces are not just personal but indicative of a larger fight for the integrity of Nigeria’s democracy.
“I urge the public to disregard these rumors and publications as they do not represent my position. My commitment remains to truth, justice, and the people I represent.
“This is not just about me; it is about the integrity of our democracy. I will not be intimidated or forced into submission through false narratives,” Akpoti-Uduaghan stated.
