Alleged Thief Posing as Customer Attacks Hawker in Abuja, Slitting His Throat

A suspected thief who posed as a customer slit a hawker’s throat and fled with his ware without paying for it in the Federal Capital Territory.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Wednesday morning, March 26, 2025 at gate 1 in Dutse-Alhaji town, Bwari Area Council of the FCT, where the victim, Babangida Abdullahi (25) used to sell waist belts.

Speaking to the Daily Trust from his hospital bed at the Kubwa General Hospital on Thursday, the victim narrated that he was approached by the two men, who pretended to be customers and demanded to buy the belts from him.

“One of them picked one of my belts worth N1500 and kept it inside his pocket. I confronted him about his action, but he refused to give the belt back to me, neither did he pay for it,” the victim narrated.

“He went ahead to bring out a sharp object from his pocket and cut me around my neck, before fleeing the scene by crossing the expressway.”

A health official on duty told the Daily Trust that the victim was brought to the hospital by a policeman, adding that a surgery was conducted on his neck involving veins close to his throat’s artery.

The health official further complained that no person had so far approached them as a member, relative or an associate of the victim, leaving them with the burden to buy injections, drugs, among other medication from their pocket so far.

Reacting, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Emmanuel Musa, said they would find a way of taking care of the victim, while looking for his people.
