According to Greek military sources, Ankara aims to use the European Meteor missile not only to enhance its fighter jet arsenal but also to develop the domestically produced Gokhan missile.
Sources told Kathimerini that the Turkish defense industry, through reverse engineering, could analyze and eventually replicate key structural and operational elements of the European Meteor, advancing its own medium-range air-to-air missile, Gokhan, which is already undergoing ground tests. Reports suggest that the Turkish version, often dubbed the “Turkish Meteor,” is intended for the fifth-generation KAAN fighter jet.
Externally, the Meteor and Gokhan missiles appear nearly identical. However, the Turkish variant features smaller fins, indicating that it is being designed for deployment in internal weapon bays, a characteristic typical of fifth-generation fighter jets.
