Gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked the residence of the Chairman of Malumfashi local government area of Katsina State, Matazu Deyi, on Tuesday night, January 28, killing his police escort, Corporal Shamsudeen Lawal.
Sources said the policeman was killed when the armed attackers invaded the residence of the chairman but were met with resistance. Although the council chairman and his family were at home at the time of the attack, they managed to escape unhurt.
Residents said the attack caused significant damage to parts of the Chairman’s house. Malumfashi LGA is among the areas in Katsina State frequently plagued by insecurity.
The Katsina State Police Command is yet to comment on this development.
