Bayelsa Governor Addresses Allegations of Affair with BBNaija Star Nengi

Douye Diri, the governor of Bayelsa State, has denied claims that he had an intimate relationship with former Big Brother Naija (BBN) contestant Nengi Rebecca Hampson.

Recall that social media went into a meltdown of some sort after a report about Nengi allegedly having a child with a married governor first appeared on the Instagram account of controversial blogger Gistlover.

After Gistlover alluded to the alleged romance by claiming that Nengi had become Governor Duoye Diri’s fifth wife, the rumors became viral on the internet.

In a statement responding to the allegation, Dr. Kola Oredipe, the governor’s spokesperson, called the accusations “baseless fabrications” spread by fake news propagandists.

Oredipe clarified: “Nengi Rebecca Hampson has no personal relationship with Governor Diri. Regrettably, purveyors of fake news are not happy with the governor’s rising political profile.”

He added that the allegations were a diversion and emphasized the necessity of regulating social media sites to prevent the dissemination of unfounded rumors.

“While we were inaugurating a brand-new road in Yenagoa, social media e-rats were busy spreading falsehoods about the governor,” Oredipe added.
