Ghana U20 on Thursday night defeated the Nigeria U2 to win gold at the 13th African Games in the women’s category.
The game which was held in Cape Coast in Ghana, had the Falconets Nigeria take the lead through Loveth Edeh in the 24th minute.
The Black Princesses of Ghana came close to equalising a few minutes later in the first half but hit the post. Nigeria also hit the post in the closing minutes of the first half and missed the opportunity to double their lead.
The second half started with the Ghanaians pressing on the front foot and nearly scored in the early minutes of the second half.

The Black Princesses’ doggedness paid off as Tracey Twum levelled the game in the 78th minute with a thunderous strike that beat the FalconeFalconet’schoice goalkeeper at the top right corner.
The game ended 1-1 after added time and proceeded into extra-time – the first time in the history of the African Games.
Ghana then took the lead in the first half of extra time through Mukarama Abdulai’s 99th-minute strike that beat Nigeria’s substituted goalkeeper at the near post.
Nigeria battled for an equalised and believed they should’ve had a penalty in the dying minutes of the second half of extra-time but the referee waved play on.
The match ended with Ghana U20 women winning the 2023 African Games in front of their home fans.
Nigeria U20 women on the other hand will feel disappointed but still managed the silver medal.
