Burkina Faso authorities has seized a total of 133 tons of drugs across the country in 2024.

The announcement was made during the CNLD’s 20th ordinary session in Ouagadougou by the Inspector General of Police Emmanuel Kaboré, permanent secretary of the National Committee for the Fight Against Drugs (CNLD).

These seizures were the result of coordinated efforts by defense and security forces. During the same period, 522 individuals were prosecuted for drug-related offenses.

As part of prevention efforts, nearly 89,000 people have been sensitized through nationwide awareness campaigns. Kaboré called for stronger collective action to address the growing complexity of drug-related crime, which is increasingly linked to transnational criminal networks.

Minister of Security Mahamadou Sana stressed the connection between drug trafficking and terrorism, stating that proceeds from drug sales help fund armed groups. He announced the adoption of a new national strategy to enhance coordination and operational effectiveness in combating drugs.

The government pledged to support the implementation of the assembly’s recommendations as part of its broader national response.
