The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has revealed that a group which identifies itself as the Kogi Central Political Frontier which is seeking the recall of suspended Kogi Central lawmaker ,Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, is not a registered group and is not legally recognized by the agency as an entity.
The group had, in a petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), dated March 25, requested the recall of Akpoti-Uduaghan, stating that it was a registered organization which had the mandate of the constituents of Kogi Central Senatorial district to initiate proceedings for the recall of the embattled senator.
The petition which was signed by one Saliha Habib on behalf of the group, had stated that it had the mandate to start the process for Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recall.
“Following the press release/observation of the Independent National Electoral Commission on the recall petition by the above body, attached is the contact of the petitioners.
“From the process the Kogi Central Indigenous people have carried out so far, this would be the first successful recall. We have spoken with one voice. We need a credible representative,” the petition read.
The group also criticised Akpoti-Uduaghan for allegedly failing to engage with her constituents, claiming she had not responded to their concerns.
But in a statement issued on Thursday signed by CAC Registrar General, Mainunat Hamu Modi, the Commission clarified that no organization known as the Kogi Central Political Frontier exists in its file, as the commission does not register political bodies or pressure groups.
“Kindly be informed that the exact name, Kogi Central Political Frontier, is not available on record as a registered entity with the Commission,” the CAC statement noted.
“Furthermore, be guided that the Commission does not register political bodies or pressure groups,” the statement added.
