N’DJAMENA (CONVERSEER) – Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno has summoned his cabinet, top military commanders, security chiefs, and the Prosecutor at the High Court of N’Djamena in response to the worsening internal security crisis marked by deadly clashes.
During the meeting, the President expressed strong dissatisfaction with the performance of the country’s intelligence and security apparatus, noting that nearly 100 lives were lost in violent conflicts in May and June alone.
President Déby criticised the failure of both central and provincial systems to collect, report, and act on intelligence, warning that he would replace current officials if the security situation does not improve.
He prevented all but the Prime Minister from speaking, underscoring the seriousness of the moment.
As the rainy season sets in, raising the likelihood of intensified farmer-herder conflicts, the next few months will be critical for Chad’s justice and security leadership.
