Covington Electric Cooperative Awards $11,440 in Grants to Teachers

Alabama, U.S. – Covington Electric Cooperative (CEC) has awarded teacher grants totalling $11,440 to 16 educators at schools within its service area.

The grants, part of CEC’s Bright Ideas program, will enable teachers to implement innovative classroom projects that lack traditional funding.

The Bright Ideas program, now in its ninth year, provides grants of up to $800 to K4-12 teachers at schools served by CEC. The initiative aims to support educational opportunities for students in the community.

Mark Parker, CEC president and CEO, highlighted the cooperative’s dedication to education. “The CEC board of trustees is committed to giving back to our community by supporting educational opportunities that benefit our members and their children. This year, CEC received 16 grant applications that the co-op was able to fully fund,” Parker said.

Grant Recipients

Teachers from the following schools received grants:

  • Pleasant Home School
  • Straughn High School
  • Straughn Elementary School
  • Samson High School
  • Red Level School
  • Kinston School
  • Brantley High School

The grants are expected to impact nearly 3,000 students across these schools.

CEC, an electric distribution cooperative, serves approximately 24,300 meters in parts of six counties, including Covington, Coffee, Geneva, Dale, Crenshaw, and Escambia.

Details about the grant projects will be featured in the February issue of Alabama Living magazine.
