The Cross River State House of Assembly has granted approval to Governor Bassey Otu to appoint 40 additional Special Advisers, SAs.
The House granted the approval on Tuesday, 12 March 2024, after deliberating on a letter signed by the Governor, which stated in part:
“In line with our resolve and determination to deliver on our campaign promises, l wish to request your kind approval for the appointment of additional Forty Special Advisers…to assist in delivering the dividends of democracy to our people.”
In their deliberation on the matter, the Lawmakers commended Governor Otu on his earlier appointments which, according to them have been evenly distributed across the 18 Local Government Areas of the State.
The Lawmakers also stressed that the appointment of more Special Advisers will further strengthen Governance as well as financially empower more Cross Riverians.

On his part, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, reiterated the need to expand the Government to bring in Cross Riverians who are qualified in various disciplines to assist the Government on its People’s First Agenda.
Ayambem commended Governor Otu for the spread of the appointments so far made and expressed confidence that the Special Advisers to be appointed will also be done in an equitable manner.
