Cross River generates N6.3bn in July as IGR

Cross River State has generated N6.3 billion as Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in July 2024 alone.

The Commissioner for Information, Hon. (Dr) Erasmus Ekpang, said the amount is the highest the state has generated in the past years.

Ekpang who stated this while briefing newsmen on Friday, 16th August, at his office in Calabar, disclosed that the N6.3bn is a sum up of the total revenue generated from all the Ministries, Developments and Agencies (MDAs).

With this projection, the state’s IGR will hit N75.6 billion in the next one year, which is more than twice the N31.4 billion generated in the entire 2022.

The state’s spokesperson said, “Last month (July), our IGR was N6.3 billion, which was the highest. I can also tell you that our IGR is increasing monthly. This is because the administration of Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu is very transparent.

“I visited CRISSAA (Cross River State Signage and Advertisement Agency); the DG, Ubong Sam, has done very well; he has doubled the IGR that used to come from there using innovations. Other MDAs are doing well too in terms of revenue generation.”

Ekpang also used the opportunity to disclose some of his achievements since being appointed Commissioner in August last year.

He said, “The past year has been hectic and also fruitful, thanks to His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, who has made my work easier.

“The information sector was dormant for almost four years until when I came in. We started by doing resolutions at every excos meeting of what this administration has done and will be doing.”

Ekpang stated that there is ongoing renovation of the state’s Newspaper Corporation, Chronicle and Printing Press, as well as CRBC, Cultural Centre and others which will be adding to the state’s IGR.

On his part, the Director General of CRISSAA, Mr Ubong Sam, said, “As of March this year, the money generated by CRISSAA was equivalent to that generated the entire last year.”

He said anyone in doubt can always visit the CRIRS (Cross River Internal Revenue Service) to know how much the agency generates into the treasury.
