Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has praised the Department of State Services (DSS) for a successful operation that led to the arrest of five prominent kidnappers hiding in forests across the state.
The arrests were made on Wednesday, March 12, after DSS operatives tracked the suspects to two separate hideouts in Enugu State, following credible intelligence. The individuals arrested are believed to be members of a notorious kidnapping gang responsible for terrorizing Udi Local Government Area and other parts of the state.
The suspects reportedly admitted to extorting huge ransoms from the families of their victims. During the operation, security forces also seized substantial amounts of money, suspected to be ransom proceeds, as well as lethal weapons and other dangerous items from the kidnappers’ hideouts.
In a statement, Governor Mbah expressed his satisfaction with the DSS’s efforts and the collaboration between various security agencies, including the military, police, and Enugu State Forest Guards. He assured the public that operations will continue to track down remaining gang members and dismantle their operations in the forests.
Additionally, on Friday, March 14, three other key members of a separate kidnapping syndicate were arrested in Enugu, further strengthening the state’s fight against criminal activity.
